Ritual Director Emeritus
Yaacov Lieberman was born in Czechoslovakia, the son of a famous Orthodox Rabbi. He was educated in Orthodoz Yeshivot prior to his capture by the Nazis. He survived the Holocaust by posing as a non-Jewish youth. Although he escaped from a concentration camp, he was eventually recaptured. He finally succeeded in migrating to Israel. During the Israel Independence War, he served as an Army chaplain and received his Rabbinic ordination. He later settled in Canada, where he served congregations in Toronto and Niagara Falls. Yaacov came to Beth Sholom Congregation in 1964 as Ritual Director. He made aliyah to Israel in 2005 with his wife.
